JM1 - Jointers Mate

This five-day course is aimed at general duty assistants that have no previous electrical knowledge and may be in the process of taking a suitable electrical qualification.

By the end of this course delegates will be able to:

  • Understand and solve basic Ohms Law problems

  • Install single phase cut outs

  • Install three phase cut outs 

  • Carry out test procedures and understand the principles behind them

  • Demonstrate single phase sub service straight joints using mechanical connectors

  • Fit joint shells

  • Mix and pour resin

LV1 - LV Live Jointing Course, Single and
Three Phase Services

This course is designed for an existing mate or electrician that has undertaken or is in the process of undertaking, a suitable electrical qualification i.e. C&G 2322.

By the end of this course delegates will be able to:

 

  • Understand and demonstrate personal safety including the basics of on-site safety requirements, hand tools, resins and personal hygiene

  • Understand the basic principles and the use of test instruments including earth loop, megger and test lamps and evaluate results.

  • Demonstrate test procedures for resistance, continuity, earth loop and polarity

  • Understand visual cable identification (cable depths, markers, tiles)

  • Demonstrate live working procedures and when they are required

  • Understand when they can work on damaged/faulty apparatus

  • Demonstrate they can strip cables

  • Fit joint boxes

  • Mix and pour the resin

  • Demonstrate they can complete a single-phase cut out including jointing instructions and procedures

  • Demonstrate they can complete a single-phase sub-service pot end

  • Demonstrate they can complete a single-phase sub-service straight joint including jointing instructions and procedures

  • Demonstrate they can complete a three-phase sub-service straight joint including jointing instructions and procedures

  • Demonstrate they can make cable ends safe

  • Demonstrate they can complete a single-phase service joint on to three-phase Wavecon mains

  • Demonstrate they can complete a three-phase service joint on to three-phase Wavecon mains

  • Demonstrate they can complete service pot ends, single and three-phase

LV2 - LV Live Mains Cable Jointing Course

This course is designed for an existing mate or electrician that has undertaken, or is in the process of undertaking, a suitable electrical qualification i.e. C&G 2322.

By the end of this course delegates will be able to:

  • Understand and demonstrate personal safety including the basics of on-site safety requirements, hand tools, resins and personal hygiene

  • Evaluate electrical test results and demonstrate the use of instruments

  • Demonstrate they can complete a Wavecon mains straight joint

  • Demonstrate they can complete a Wavecon mains straight joint with crossed cores

  • Demonstrate they can complete a breeches joint - Wavecon mains cable three-phase

  • Demonstrate they can complete a pot end - Wavecon mains cable three-phase – single-phase service connection

  • Demonstrate they can complete a cut-out termination – Wavecon mains cable – three-phase

  • Demonstrate they can complete Wavecon sheath repairs

This course is designed for an existing mate or electrician that has undertaken, or is in the process of undertaking, a suitable electrical qualification i.e. C&G 2322.

By the end of this course delegates will be able to:

  • Understand and demonstrate personal safety including the basics of on-site safety requirements, hand tools, resins and personal hygiene

  • Evaluate electrical test results and demonstrate the use of instruments

  • Demonstrate they can complete a transition main straight joint – Wavecon cable to PILCSTA three-phase cable

  • Demonstrate they can complete transition mains breeches joint - Wavecon cable to PILCSTA three-phase cable

  • Demonstrate they can complete mains pot end PILCSTA mains cable three phase with a single-phase service connection

  • Demonstrate they can complete a multi-service breeches joint PILC/Consac

  • Demonstrate they can complete a service pot end PILC

  • Demonstrate they can complete a mains PILC pot end

This course is designed for existing crafts persons who have previous cable jointing experience at low voltage.

By the end of this course delegates will be able to:

 

  • Understand and demonstrate personal safety including the basics of on-site safety requirements, hand tools, and personal hygiene

  • Identify HV Polymeric cable.

  • Demonstrate sheath removal, screen stripping, insulation and earth wire preparation and ready for jointing

  • Demonstrate they can complete a 185mm² single core 11kV polymeric End Box Terminations

  • Demonstrate they can complete an 11kV 185mm² single core separable connector Termination

Polymeric XLPE and EPR

This course is designed for existing crafts persons who have previous cable jointing experience at low voltage.

By the end of this course delegates will be able to:

 

  • Understand and demonstrate personal safety including the basics of on-site safety requirements, hand tools, resins and personal hygiene

  • Identify a polymeric cable.

  • Explain and understand which safety documents jointers need to understand

  • Demonstrate they can use cable spiking tools and core identification.

  • Demonstrate sheath removal, screen stripping, insulation and earth wire preparation and presenting smooth cores ready for jointing

  • Demonstrate they can complete a straight joint using heat shrink methodology.

  • Demonstrate they can complete a 185 single core pole or cable box Termination

  • Demonstrate they can complete a 185 single core trifurcating joint

  • Demonstrate they can complete a triplex to 185 three core breeches joint

This course is designed for existing crafts persons who have previous cable jointing experience at low voltage.

By the end of this course delegates will be able to:

 

  • Understand and demonstrate personal safety including the basics of on-site safety requirements, hand tools, resins and personal hygiene

  • Identify a polymeric cable and explain their history and development in the distribution supply industry

  • Demonstrate sheath removal, screen stripping, insulation and earth wire preparation and presenting smooth cores ready for jointing

  • Demonstrate they can carry out a 33kV 150mm² Single Core Cable for Cable Box/Pole Termination

  • Demonstrate they can carry out a 33kV 150mm² Single Core Cable for Straight Joint

HV4 - Lovink Silicone filled Triplex XLPE -
EPR Straight Joint & Tyco Applied End Termination 

This course is designed for existing crafts persons who have previous cable jointing experience at low voltage.

By the end of this course delegates will be able to:

 

  • Demonstrate sheath removal; screen stripping, insulation and earth wire preparation for both XLPE and EPR cables

  • Provide prepared cores ready for jointing for both XLPE and EPR cables using LoviSil technologies

  • Complete a Triplex XLPE to EPR cable straight joint using LoviSil jointing technology.

  • Demonstrate and complete cable termination using TYCO cold applied end termination technology.
