NHS Electrical Awareness for Managers (HV&LV)

Course Overview:
The course is to introduce NHS managers, who may not be directly responsible for the electrical networks, to the risks associated with such systems, either directly from electric shock or explosion, or indirectly due to loss of supply to equipment providing critical life safety or business continuity resilience.
Course Objectives:
This one day course is designed for NHS managers and staff that do not necessarily control electrical systems on a day to day basis but require additional knowledge, for example, capital projects managers or risk managers. The main objectives are:
To inform the delegate of the relevant UK legislation specifically applicable to electrical systems and equipment, for example, the Electricity at Work Regulations 1989 and the Electrical Safety, Quality and Continuity Regulations 2002
To introduce Health Technical memoranda HTM 06-01, HTM 06-02 and HTM 06-03
To understand the requirements for controlling access to substations and switch rooms and understand the hazards created by the equipment in these enclosures
To understand the duties and responsibilities of an Authorised Person (both HV and LV) as defined within HTM 06-02 and 06-03
To have a basic understanding of the requirements of HTM 06-01
o The role of the Electrical Safety Group
o Risks due to loss of supply
o Design considerations
o Distribution strategy for resilience
