HTM 06-02 LV Competent Person

Course Objectives:
To refresh delegates on the requirements and individual responsibilities under the NHS Safety Management System (SMS)
To update delegates on changes and to develop them in the application of the LV Switching and fault diagnostics and rectification
Assess delegates competence in the practical application of undertaking the level of duties for LV CP
Course Structure:
On completion of the course, delegates will be familiar with developments and changes to the working environment and be able to demonstrate their continued competence of working safely on or near electrical systems. Delegates shall update their knowledge of:
Hazards associated with Electrical LV systems and requirements for working safely:
o Electrical hazards
o Mechanical hazards
o Thermal Hazards
o Chemical hazards
o Noise hazards
Context and content of the NHS Safety Management System
Risk Assessments and Control Measures
Personal responsibilities
Procedures for making LV systems safe for work/testing with no loss of service to the customer if possible
Safety documents procedures
Selection and use of safe systems of work
PPE Requirements
Phasing Out
Safe Isolation of Systems and Equipment
Generation Systems and Connections
Load Banks
To confirm the ability to operate safely on LV systems and to ensure that appropriate safety measures are in place prior to work/testing activities being carried out.
To confirm the understand the duties and responsibilities of an Authorised Person (LV) as defined within an SMS and to demonstrate a satisfactory standard of competence to carry them out.
To understand how to comply with Regulation 14 of the Electricity at Work Regulations and apply safe live working practices
