OP30 Low Voltage Networks Authorised Person Training Course

Course Objectives:
To train and assess persons who are to be appointed as LV Authorised Persons under the Customer Safety Management System in their roles and responsibilities as Authorised Persons to ensure that they possess the necessary knowledge, skill and competence to carry out this role.
The course objectives are:
To develop the essential underpinning technical knowledge appropriate for operations and work on LV networks
To develop an understanding and appropriate working knowledge of electrical safety guidance for LV systems including Safety Management Systems
The ability to prepare Safety Programmes, Isolation and Earthing diagrams and Safety Documents
The ability to apply the requirements of the Customer SMS to practical situations
The ability to operate safely on LV systems and to ensure that appropriate safety measures are in place prior to work/testing activities being carried out
Ability to recognise key hazards relating to work/testing on electrical networks:
Equipment under stress
Fixed fire-fighting systems
Pre-work Risk Assessment
Correct use and selection of PPE
The need for accompaniment
Correct use of testing equipment
Damaged and faulty LV apparatus
To be able to gain safe access to substations and switchrooms and be able to carry out risk assessments, identify hazards prior to entry and work in such enclosures
To understand how to comply with Regulation 14 of the Electricity at Work Regulations and apply safe live working practices
Course Delivery:
The course will provide a mix of theoretical and practical demonstrations to reinforce the learning outcomes delivered.
