OP42 High Voltage Operations Refresher Course

Course Objectives:
This course will review the preferred principles and working practices for work on High and Low Voltage electrical systems. To provide guidance and instruction for delegates to refresh their knowledge and practical experience on such systems and will provide information on changes to technology and legislation, pertinent incidents and actions by enforcing authorities over the preceding three years.
On completion of the course, delegates should be able to:
Evidence their underpinning knowledge appropriate for operations and work on High Voltage and Low Voltage networks
Demonstrate a high level of practical performance whilst safely operating HV and LV switchgear
Apply Safe Systems of Work for working on HV and LV systems, which will include:
Safety programmes and schedules of work
Issue and receipt of Safety Documents
Identify dangers that may arise from the system/work using:
Risk Assessments and Method Statements
Safe Working Procedures for:
Isolation
Earthing
Demonstrate a level of confidence and approach to the management of safety systems required when working on HV and LV systems
Demonstrate the correct methods for gaining safe access to substations and switch-rooms and to carryout Risk Assessments, identify hazards prior to entry and work in such enclosures
Apply the duties and responsibilities of competent persons as defined in Electricity at Work Regulations (1989) when working and operating on both HV and LV electrical systems
Course Delivery:
The course will provide a mix of theoretical and practical demonstrations to reinforce the learning outcomes delivered.
