OP8 Receipt of Safety Documents Course

Membership:
The course is designed for those persons who will be entering an electrical environment and be required to receive a Permit to Work (PTW) and Limitation of Access (LOA) to carry out work on dead and isolated equipment, or adjacent to live equipment. In addition, the person may be required to be the person in charge of a working party under the Safety Document.
Pre-requisites:
Delegates should also have completed the OP9 Substation Authority for Access Course delivered by ASM, or a suitable course equivalent before attending this course.
Course Objectives:
Upon successful completion of the course, candidates will have proven their knowledge and understanding of the following:
Identify Operational Safety Rules relative to work on Extra High Voltage and High Voltage systems, including appropriate approved procedures as a Competent Person in receipt of a safety document
Demonstrate the LOTO procedure and explain the responsibilities of the Lockout Supervisor and the Works Supervisor in ensuring that the apparatus to be worked on is safe from the system
Identify the safety requirements to be established prior to the issue of PTW / LOA including isolation and earthing requirements for work on Extra High Voltage and High Voltage systems
Through practical examples, determine the safety precautions required and apply procedures for working on equipment made Dead using both PTW and LOA safety documents
Explain duties and responsibilities of Competent Persons when in receipt of Safety Documents as the document holder
Means / method of identifying and proving Dead at the point of work
Delivery Methods:
Delegates will understand the hazards associated with electrical installations by using practical exercises to provide a realistic approach to achieving competence.
Assessments will be used throughout the course to determine the competence levels and then also by final assessment and interview at the end of the course.
