Course Objectives
To train and assess persons who are to be responsible for safety under the Formula Student Rules and Local SSoW in their roles and responsibilities as Electrical Safety Officers, to ensure that they possess the necessary knowledge, skill and competence to carry out this role.
Upon completion of the course delegates will have proven their knowledge and understanding of the following
Dangers of electricity and requirements for working safely
Their personal and corporate legislative responsibilities
The structure, content and application of the Formula Student EV Safety Rules Handbook applicable to EV Competent Persons and ESOs
How to find the relevant information within the EV Safety Rules Handbook and associated Safety Rules Procedures
Their responsibilities under the Formula Student EV Safety Rules Handbook applicable to EV Competent Persons and ESOs
The responsibilities of a Safety Document holder or member of a Working Party
Risk Assessment procedures
Procedures for isolating and proving Dead EV Systems
Safety Document procedures – the preparation, issue, clearance and cancellation of EV Safety Documents
Requirements for Live Working
Arc Flash – Understanding the potential dangers, incident energy levels and PPE requirements (reference to NFPA 70E)
Responsibilities of ‘Person-in-Charge’ and members of a work/test party
Preparation of Method Statements / Safe Systems of Work
Safe Systems of Work for Battery Systems, AC/DC Inverters, AC Motors, cabling and other ancillary equipment
Use of Approved tools and equipment
Types and safe use of measuring instruments
Functional and Diagnostic testing
Emergency procedures
